Am I Eligible to Take the TOEFL iBT® Home Edition?
The TOEFL is one of the most popular English proficiency exams for admission to American and Canadian universities and educational institutions abroad. The complete form stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. The TOEFL iBT® Home Edition is a new addition.
The test measures international candidates’ understanding and usage of English as spoken, written, and heard in the university environment. ETS (Educational Testing Services) is the organizing body of the TOEFL and is responsible for setting the TOEFL questions, conducting the exam, and sending each examinee their scorecard.
The TOEFL iBT® Home Edition
The TOEFL iBT® Home Edition is a safe and convenient option for aspirants wishing to take their test at home rather than at an exam center. The exam is:
- available 24 hours a day, four days a week, with bookings as early as 24 hours after you register
- identical in content, format, and on-screen experience to an exam taken at a test center
- offered across all places where TOEFL® testing is usually available, based on the country of your account address, except Iran and Mainland China
- taken on your device at home and monitored by a human proctor online with ProctorU®

Eligibility
Students aiming to study overseas are required to appear for the TOEFL. Aspirants would be relieved to know that ETS – the organizing body of the TOEFL iBT has not specified any age criteria, education qualification, or prerequisites to appear for the TOEFL.
According to the ETS guideline, there is no specific rule for maximum or minimum age limit.
That said, if you are an aspirant for the TOEFL, you must pass your higher secondary examination or any equivalent examination. Once the candidate qualifies for the said examination, they can appear for the TOEFL.
Registration Fee for TOEFL iBT® Home Edition
To appear for the examination from your home, you need to pay a registration fee. At the time of requesting a TOEFL iBT® Home Edition, pay the entire amount. The governing body of TOEFL, ETS, accepts all kinds of debit and credit cards, Money Order, PayPal, Paper Cheque, and Western Union Quick-Pay.
However, applicants should remember that ETS does not accept cash, demand drafts and post-dated cheques as modes of payment. Also, ETS does not accept any other currency other than the US dollar.
