The lush green campus of the World University of Design, spread over 12 acres, is located in the fast-developing Rajiv Gandhi Education City on NH1 in Delhi, NCR. Its neighbour, premier institutes like the IIT Delhi, Ashoka University, National Law University, and NIFTEM. The Education City is 15 minutes away from the Delhi border and 3 hours from Chandigarh. The nearest Delhi Metro station is Jahangirpuri for now. The authorities have also announced the extension of the Metro line to the education city. Moreover, the campus connects with towns in its vicinity that support comfortable living in the area.
Following all creative people’s shared belief that “an Idea doesn’t have a time or place”, the WUD doesn’t confine teaching to walled spaces. The College for Creative Studies, Michigan, USA, was founded in 1906. The College for Creative Studies (CCS), a fully accredited private college, enrols more than 1,400 students, pursuing Bachelors and Masters degrees in Interaction Design, Color and Materials Design, Integrated Design, Entertainment Arts, Transportation Design, Advertising Design, Art Education, Crafts, Graphic Design, Fashion Accessories Design, Fine Arts, Illustration, Interior Design, Product Design, and Photography.
France
ENSAIT or École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textile is a 130-year-old institute considered the leading textile trainer behind educating 75% of all Masters candidates in textile in France.
Apart from exchanges, the WUD also invites professors of design worldwide to come and teach at WUD. Solely in the last year, Prof. Mark Watson from RMIT Australia and Prof. Joel Peterson from Swedish College of Textiles held workshops of up to two weeks at WUD.
Hostel Facilities
WUD provides air-conditioned, spacious, wifi equipped, semi-furnished hostel rooms with attached baths for girls in-campus and boys off-campus. Construction of a new hostel is underway on campus, which will become available for boys soon.
The hostel’s kitchen has been designed by Master Chef Shaju Zacharia and is regulated by well known institutional caterers. The nutritious, hygienically produced, and tasty meals serve staff and students alike. It also offers a separate laundry service and wifi-enabled hostels. A tuck shop takes care of daily necessities. Facilities also include a primary health care unit, including a full-time nurse and a doctor on call.
Social and Cultural Activities
The WUD acknowledges diversity in the origin of its members and the importance of cultural and social activities in enhancing communication skills, improving the personality, and building a progressive, positive global outlook. It encourages its students to participate actively in various activity clubs like Reading Club, Sports Club, Film Club, Performing Arts Club, etc. and organise literary, cultural and social events such as sports meeting, annual fest, etc. to develop stronger bonds and to showcase their latent talent in these activities.
The WUD annual fest, named CULT, attracted participation from various colleges in Haryana, Delhi NCR, Himachal Pradesh, UP etc. The WUD teams also participate in festivities of other institutes and independent competitions.
Many outdoor and indoor sporting opportunities are available to students at WUD. There are facilities for Basket Ball, Soccer, Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess. A Gymnasium with cardio, free weights, resistance training equipment and stretching, is also available. The WUD has a 1000 capacity open-air theatre and many smaller venues to host and hold cultural performances.
WUD invites renowned personalities from various fields to share their expertise and knowledge with students. Eminent scholars visiting the campus include Prof. Osmud Rehman, Ryerson University; Prof. AG Krishna Menon, INTACH; Prof. Paul Inman, Oxford Brookes University; Prof. Elizabeth Rose, University of Otago; etc.
Academic Resources
Library and Material Museum
The WUD maintains a library endowed with physical and soft copies of journals, books and magazines from all areas. The Material Museum is a facility of building materials, fittings, surfaces, plumbing etc., to provide a real-time touch and feel skill.
Workshops
Workshops are where ideas take a tangible form. One of its prime focus is “learning by doing”, and the World University of Design maintains high standard workshops for facilitating the work of each of the schools. Architecture and Interior students will have a Model Making workshop and CAD rooms. Aspiring product designers will find a fully functional Machine shop with all relevant hand tools and power tools. A Makers-Lab is under process with the latest prototyping tools. Students of Fashion will have a highly equipped Patternmaking, Sewing and Garment Construction workshop. The studios have industry-standard hardware and software like Alias, Rhino, Adobe Creative Cloud, Catia, AutoCAD etc. Workshop assistants guide while operating machines and implement safety practices.
Art Gallery
